Monkey Amigurumi Pattern

Since the first time I posted about my monkey amigurumis, I have received lots of positive feedback and interest in getting a pattern for them.  Not knowing so many people would take interest in my monkeys, I actually submitted my pattern for them in Interweave’s  2012 Crochet Me Amigurumi Calendar Contest, and surprisingly got chosen to be a part of the calendar!  I received my complimentary copy of the calendar in the mail about a month ago, and have been waiting since then for them to publish the ebook which contains all the patterns for the amigurumis in the calendar.  They finally have, so I’m posting about it now to spread the good news!

Here are some pictures of the calendar I took myself:

I also submitted a pattern for a polar bear my sister fondly nicknamed Polar Lucibear, and it got chosen for the month of December too!  Never had the chance to take nice pictures of it before I had to send it in for the contest, but oh well, the professionals did a good job anyway!

According to the site description, the patterns for the monkeys will be released for free download at CrochetMe.com during the first week of the month for which they appear in the calendar (my monkeys were chosen for the month of June).  If you don’t want to wait, you can always download the ebook now with all the patterns in the calendar at the link above.

Can’t wait to order some more calendars myself!  Definitely excited to give them away as presents to friends and family! :D   Thanks to everyone who gave me such nice feedback and for showing interest in my monkeys, it really means a lot to me.

Hawaiian Monkey Amigurumi

Let’s get into the tropical mood with a Hawaiian monkey amigurumi!

Are we in a tropical mood yet?  Let’s just drop everything and go to Hawaii!!!  A little late with the monthly posting but here we go!

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-1

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-1

Exactly one year ago, we took a family trip to Hawaii for a week, so to remember the fun times I decided to make a Hawaiian monkey amigurumi.  When I got to thinking of what to do for the month of August, nothing came to mind but summery things and warm beachy places….like Hawaii!

And our 360 degree view looks like this:

Weee!

Ah, now I’m dizzy.

Like the coconut + plumeria + leafy headdress?  The coconut was crocheted with a thinner yarn and took a very long time to make.  Lots of work just for one tiny little coconut halve.  Even though it’s small, it doesn’t mean that it’ll be less work.  The plumerias next to the coconut are actually earrings.  The last time we went to Hawaii, we bought them from ABCmart (very cheap and nice by the way).

The plumerias on the grass skirt also came from that store and are actually one bracelet.  I just crocheted the grass skirt and slid the bracelet on afterwards.  Looks nice and festively Hawaiian right?  Mm…a luau sounds really good right now.  :)

And of course my Hawaiian monkey amigurumi needs some friends!  Say hello to coconut amigurumi!  It’s so smiley and happy in the background.  Now I could really use a pina colada.

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-11

Ah yes and before I forget, I also crocheted a small coconut palm to go with the Hawaiian monkey.  Such a happy little tropical family~

For this particular monkey, I tried to make it look tanned.  Did you catch on to that?  Well anyway, I used a darker felt for the face, chest, and ears, instead of the usual light colored one.  I figured that if it’s going to be a Hawaiian monkey, why not make it look like it came straight from Hawaii?  Exposed to all the sunlight and warm weather!  It’d be weird if it were a pale monkey right?  It just wouldn’t be genuinely Hawaiian.

Happy summer!  Hope you all enjoyed my take on a Hawaiian monkey amigurumi!

Father’s Day Monkey Amigurumi

For the Monkey of the Month of June, we would like to introduce to you a Father’s Day Monkey Amigurumi!  Mother had her month in May, so it would only be fair for Father to have his special time this month.

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-17

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-17

Here is the Father’s Day Monkey Amigurumi coming home from a hard day at work.  And yes, he carries around a cute little notebook with a heart on it in his suitcase…not by choice of course!  It must have been one of his kid’s pranks…

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-2

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-2

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-4

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-4

What I like best about this Father’s Day Monkey Amigurumi is his tie, which my sister designed and assembled out of felt.  We also experimented with a different color combination this time, using light blue as his face and dark blue for the body.  I think it makes him look rather manly and handsome, don’t you??

Mother is excited and ready to go shopping now that Father has come back.

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-14

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-14

What’s this?!  All of a sudden, Father is ambushed by his troublesome son (nicknamed “Chipmunk” for his chubby cheeks) who can’t wait to eat the strawberry shortcake he helped bake with Mother.  (Side note: the strawberry shortcake was crocheted out of the same yarn as my Baby Whale Amigurumis.  Will post about that later for sure, as I am still working on “baking” other types of cakes!)

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-18

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-18

Now his daughter joins in on the fun with a Father’s Day present she hopes will not disappoint!  The present, by the way, she wrapped last minute right before he came home, anticipating she’d have plenty of time to do so while he does his “sit in the bathroom with newspaper after a hard day’s work” ritual.

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-15

father's-day-monkey-amigurumi-15

“Stop monkeying around and come down from your father’s head, Chipmunk.  Let’s celebrate Father’s Day properly!”  Mother scolds.  And with that, the monkey amigurumi family happily celebrates another lovely Father’s Day.

Happy Father’s Day!!!

Mother’s Day Monkey Amigurumi

Hey everyone it’s Mother’s Day!  Do anything special for mom today?

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-2

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-2

Going along with our little monkey of the month theme, we decided to make a Mother’s Day monkey amigurumi!  Surprise!!  Yeah, not much of a surprise but hey it’s a good idea especially if you’ve completely run out of gift ideas for mom this year.  Why not just make a hand-crafted and personalized monkey amigurumi for mom?  Moms always like what their children make them.  It’s like being back in elementary school and bringing home a teacher-forced-me-to in-class art project for Mother’s Day.  And with nothing else to do with it, mom will slap a magnet on it and show it off on the sustenance box:  the refrigerator!!!

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-3

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-3

Well, hopefully you don’t think of it that way!  :D   We love our mommies and I’m sure they’ll love anything you try to do to thank them.

But if you really want to do something personal and special for mom, then take the crochet mom a Mother’s Day amigurumi approach.

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-6

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-6

Of course, this monkey would not be considered a mom if it didn’t even have a kid monkey to go with it!

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-9

What do you think?  Does the apron on our Mother’s Day monkey amigurumi make it look motherly?

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-15

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-15

What’s mom going to bake today?  Cakes, cupcakes, pancakes?

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-13

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-13

How about all of the above.  :)   If any of you remember from my first few posts, those are NOT hats!!!  They are cakes!

They can hold hands too!  Well somewhat…

This is mom’s favorite lipstick.  And here is our little kiddie stealing mom’s lipstick and going for a joy ride~

mother's-day-monkey-amigurumi-16

Oh, and don’t worry this family is still not complete yet!  Are we forgetting someone?  More monkey amigurumis to come!

Thanks to all of you for looking~ Happy Mother’s Day!  Maybe I should go and get a I<3MoM tattoo!  hahaa…ouch.
