One of the most frequent questions I get on my blog is “Where can I buy your monkey amigurumi pattern? I can’t find it for sale on your website.”

Honestly, that darned monkey is one of the most popular things I’ve ever crocheted and every time I hear that question my heart sinks a little. That’s because it’s not for sale… at least not on my website.

You see, I shipped off my dear Ayo and Kiki monkey amigurumis to CrochetMe so I could participate in a contest to be included in their 2012 amigurumi calendar and they ended up selecting my monkeys! Here they are posing cutely for the calendar:

2012 CrochetMe Amigurumi eBook Monkeys

So the short answer is I can’t sell it on my website, but you can get it from the Interweave Store and it costs $8.99. Now you might be saying, that’s a lot to pay for a monkey amigurumi pattern and I would tell you you’re absolutely right! But the CrochetMe ebook actually contains the patterns for all the animals in the calendar! So it works out to less than $0.75 a pattern which in my opinion is pretty good.

Read what real people are saying about it:

I love this calendar! The patterns are innovative, fun to make & easy to understand. The finished results have been wonderful. I know the children I give these little lovelies to for Christmas will enjoy them. Thanks for putting this calendar together. It has been a joy to use already!!

-Debra

I loved each and every amigurumi pattern. Each one is a winner and oh so cute! I’m proud to be included among such talented people. Aah! I’m going to enjoy making each of these sweeties. xoxoxoxo

-Mamta M.

This was great have made a lot of the animals and everyone loves them

To (hopefully) make it up to you a little, I have an exclusive coupon code you can use to get 15% off. Just use code WEAVE15 at checkout to apply the discount. It will work on your entire purchase if you plan on getting some crocheting supplies while you’re at it.

15% off interweave store coupon

Now as to why I can’t sell my monkey pattern here on my website: I can’t because I signed a contract not to. In order to be in their calendar, I had to give up rights to the pattern and agree not to sell it myself… *sigh*. It makes sense since they are selling the ebook and calendar themselves and any competition would affect their sales. At least it’s in good hands in a good home for a reasonable price.

So support the Interweave Store and buy the ebook if you like my monkey pattern so much! It makes a great gift and 12 adorable amigurumi crafts.

Rudolph Reindeer Amigurumi

It’s my favorite time of year again, and since I already made a Santa monkey amigurumi last year I knew I just had to give him a friend to help spread the holiday cheer, and who better to help than a Rudolph reindeer amigurumi!!

rudolph-reindeer-amigurumi-4

rudolph-reindeer-amigurumi-4

The idea of a Rudolph reindeer amigurumi actually came from a co-worker of mine, and after she suggested it I thought, “Why didn’t I think of that??”  I guess I’ve been avoiding making any animals like deer, horses, or cows, because they have long, slender snouts that I could never replicate.  But then I just decided to give it a try this year, and it came out much better than I expected!  Although, I must admit, halfway through making this Rudolph reindeer amigurumi I was seriously doubting how well it would turn out, especially the face.  Luckily, just felt with a red sparkly felted nose was enough to take the place of a slender snout. I kind of like the cartoony look it achieved!

You know what else saved the Rudolph reindeer amigurumi from being another addition to my Pile of Failures? The antlers…! !

rudolph-reindeer-amigurumi-9

rudolph-reindeer-amigurumi-9

Notice how the antlers kind of arch a little bit?  There’s actually no wire or anything inside the antlers, it was just molded into that shape from the outside by the sewing genius.  I would never have thought of molding it into that shape, but somehow once it takes on that arch it just looks more like an actual reindeer.

And the ears on the reindeer are actually the same exact shape as my Chinese dragon amigurumi.  I noticed that my dragon without the whiskers and spiky mane would look a lot like a deer, so I just based this reindeer off of that pattern.  My motto for creating patterns is stick with what you know best…because it’s so much less work in the end haha!  I think the real secret is I’m incredibly lazy…

And of course we can’t ignore all those fancy embellishments on this Rudolph reindeer amigurumi.  Did you notice the bells on his collar?  I sewed each and every one of those seven bells onto the collar that I crocheted.  It took a long time, and believe me, I am not a good sewer so it was tough for me.  But it’s ok, it was totally worth it!  The seven bells on its collar give it extra jingle!  You could probably use the Rudolph reindeer amigurumi as a tambourine if you wanted to for that extra “umph” in your Christmas caroling!  Haha jk, if you did that, its head might fall off and you’d have stuffing all over the place…which might look like snow too…ok I’m just being weird now, I’ll stop haha.

The holly leaves were also cut out by my laser-precise felt-cutting sister.  She cut them out without even having to trace anything!  I couldn’t even draw holly leaves correctly on paper if someone told me to.  I don’t know how she knows these random things and can translate them into an actual cut-out.  Alas, my brain is not formatted for art.  I was always the least artsy of my siblings.  I think my artwork was only chosen twice in my elementary school career, whereas my brother and sister were chosen yearly and were the art teachers’ pets.  I felt like such a failure then…I’m so glad I found amigurumi hahaha.

Did you notice the really cool-looking Christmas tree behind the Ruoldph reindeer amigurumi?  That was actually a present from my future sister-in-law.  She went through great lengths in Taiwan to buy them and lug them around in a crowded train in order to give them to us as Christmas presents last year.  So glad she did, because that tree is awesome!  The light inside fades away and changes into beautiful shades of color, and the white-ness and sharp edges really give it a clean look.  It came as a paper cutout that you have to assemble yourself.  A very fun process and worthwhile end product!

That’s all for now!  Thanks for looking and I hope our Rudolph reindeer amigurumi has brought you much cheer and joy for the holiday season!

Peanut Butter Chocolate Rabbit Amigurumi

And hello~ we are back this time with a peanut butter chocolate rabbit amigurumi!  Guess we’re on a rabbit amigurumi spree now that all the monkeys are done.  We just really like to see things in many different colors/color combinations, so yeah, guess that explains our ‘make the same animal in different colors’ sprees.  If we don’t make them in different colors, then we’ll never be able to tell what they’ll look like right?  :)

Yeah, no matter how many times I iron that damn cloth backdrop, it just refuses to stay flat.  So, excuse the wrinkles haha. Read more »

Tiger Amigurumi

Yes, we can do other things besides monkey amigurumis…like a tiger amigurumi!

tiger-amigurumi-4

tiger-amigurumi-4

This tiger amigurumi is supposed to go along with the Chinese zodiac theme, but it seems like we’ll be doing the animals out of order and depending on our mood.  I mean who can resist a tiger in the middle of the rabbit year?  If we seriously decided to post the animal of the year in order and in a timely fashion then you’d have to stay tuned for another eleven years!!  Yep, crazy indeed.  But if you’d like to stick around for that long then you are more than welcome to!  :D

So here is the side view of our tiger amigurumi…nice and round from all the rabbits he ate.  Ha ha, no tigers eat better things… like human food!

Sheep Amigurumi

Continuing on with the springy animals…today we bring you sheep amigurumi!  Not yetis.  -_-

We’ve waited a long time to get our hands on this expensive fuzzy yarn, so when our mom collected enough Joann coupons in the mail, we bought two squishy balls of fuzzy black and white yarn.  I love black and white!  You can never go wrong with it.  So I sat around and tossed the yarn from one hand to the other and thought “if I could juggle, I’d juggle these”.  Hahaha no.  What I really thought was “ah…soft, squishy, soft, squishy…sheep!”  And there you have it.  Black and white sheep amigurumi.

sheep-amigurumi-3

sheep-amigurumi-3

The semi-drooping ears and extra fluff on its head gives it the signature “sheep” look, right?  Well at least that’s what we were aiming for because without the ears sewn on, it really did look like a yeti.  I mean yetis are nice–with their cute faces and all–but nah, maybe next time!

sheep-amigurumi-2

sheep-amigurumi-2

Of course we can’t forget a fuzzy little tail to our sheep amigurumi!

sheep-amigurumi-1

Here’s the black sheep version

black-sheep-amigurumi-3

black-sheep-amigurumi-3

Now the black sheep amigurumi was pretty funny to make.  When I sewed on the ears, for some reason I just really liked to pinch the bottom ends of them inwards to make it pointy.  Why?  I don’t know…I just like to see sharp and edgy things…?  But anyway, I handed it back to the crochet master for her approval and she said, “WHAT?  Why is it that when I give things to you they always turn out sharp and scary looking?!”  And then she quickly molded them back into its cuter shape.  Yeah, the dark colors and the sharp ears without the round pink felt pieces in them really made it look…devilish. >]

But don’t worry, they’re happy little friends!  Cute, soft, and fuzzy! :D
