Good idea?  Bad idea?  Who doesn’t like a tiger amigurumi?  Tigers and Valentine’s Day makes perfect sense, right?  The truth is we just really wanted to make a pink tiger.  <3

It doesn’t look like much, but this tiger amigurumi used up quite a bit of felt.  In case you were wondering, there is a total of 22 black felt stripes on this thing…!  Never bothered to count it up until now, and now that I have, it’s quite a shocking number haha.  o_O

Of course, if there’s a female tiger, there’s got to be a male one too!  Ah~so handsome.  He’s even waving at you flirtatiously.  That little casanova…

The heart plushies were made out of felt by the way.  If you were even bothering to wonder haha.  I made a crapload of them just for these tiger amigurumi.  Did they serve their purpose well?

Valentine’s Day Rabbit Amigurumi

Today we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with our nice, shiny, and bright Valentine’s Day Rabbit Amigurumi!

We went to town with this one–white and pink rhinestones and all.  The one thing that inspired us to make this Valentine’s Day rabbit amigurumi was the pink leopard print felt.  We were at the craft store one day and noticed a couple of new felt sheets next to the usual solid colored ones.  Our crocheter just couldn’t resist the temptation of playing around with one of them, so we ended up picking this leopard print one.

Valentines Day Monkey Amigurumi

With Valentine’s Day coming up, I became inspired to make a Valentines day monkey amigurumi!  This was the first time I ever tried making the monkey amigurumi another color besides brown and gray.  I was excited to see how just changing the color palette would affect the overall look, and it definitely made a big difference!

Somehow it just looks extra sweet and tasty!  Or maybe I’m just craving some Valentine’s sweetheart candies right now…Either way, it still looks cute!  The eyes also seem to sparkle more, perhaps due to the whiteness of the felt behind it.

We also substituted the usual banana snack with a felt heart plush for the Valentine monkey amigurumi to snuggle.  It was pretty hard to convince the monkey to let go of the bananas, but she finally gave in when we promised her a whole bushel of bananas later.  Monkeys nowadays, really…

Here are some more pics:

The chair in the background actually was a spontaneous add-in to the photo-shoot.  It was a chair my sister and I used to play with during our childhood days, and had lost into the oblivion of the crack against your bed and wall, you know that one right?   After all these years she just found it the day before we took the photos and it just so happened to have a heart shape to it too!  It must have been fate.  I think it really completes the look of the Valentine’s monkey amigurumi.

The Valentines day monkey amigurumi is available for purchase at my Etsy.  Happy Valentine’s Day! <3

Crocheted Valentine’s Day Box and Charms

Happy V-day everyone! And hello everyone…sorry for being dormant for so long on this blog. I do intend to blog more this year, I swear!

Does anyone remember having to exchange Valentines in school for Valentine’s day, and decorating a box to hold all those precious Valentine cards? I don’t know about everyone else, but it’s been quite a long time since elementary school for me! So when my coworkers decided to exchange Valentines this year with decorated boxes, I was a little hesitant to join in. Everything I’ve made as a kid for school, like shoe boxes for book reports or Valentine boxes, were never noteworthy. So naturally, this was my initial fear as an adult as well. But once I realized I could try to crochet my Valentine box…I became excited! :D

Here is what I ended up making:

Valentine's day box 1

Valentine’s day box 1

I used a tissue box as my container. I crocheted rectangular panels for each side and sewed them together at the edges. For the top of the box, I crocheted four small rectangular pieces and sewed them together at the edges to allow for the hole in the center. I then crocheted different sizes of hearts and sewed each piece onto the box wherever I felt like a heart was needed. The heart pattern I used was from PlanetJune’s Craft Blog, here. It’s a great pattern, very easy to follow and very nice results!

And then, while I was at it, I thought why not just crochet all my Valentines too? People thought I was being ambitious by doing that, but in actuality, I was just being lazy. I just didn’t want to drive to the store to buy them…because, you know, it’s so out of the way from my usual route back home from work to drop by Target or some other store where they sell Valentines (and I would really rather just drive straight home after work)…I’m not even sure where to buy them actually. So yes, laziness, and also the thought of being able to keep your Valentine and use it as something useful were reasons why I decided to crochet them.

It was easy to crochet the Valentine charms too, I just crocheted one small heart and one medium sized heart and stacked them. I had my sister hot glue gun them together, and then I attached a red yarn to the heart so people could hang it wherever they like in their cube. Since there’s 20 people on my team, I had to crochet 40 hearts total…that’s a lot. I got tired midway, after crocheting about 10 hearts and thought, what did I get myself into? My coworkers were right, I was being way too ambitious. But then, I had no choice because it was too late at night for me to go to the store to buy real Valentine cards! So, I just continued on…

Here’s a pic of all the hearts after I finished crocheting them all:

Don’t they look so nice all together?? So many hearts! After I finished, I wanted to keep them all to myself, just because they looked so nice together. These 20 Valentine charms took me from 8 pm until 11:30 pm last night! My hands were so sore afterwards, I’d advise everyone not to procrastinate on crafting the day before a holiday…it can be quite stressful!

Hope everyone has a great Valentine’s day with your loved ones! Thanks for looking! <3

St Patricks Day Monkey Amigurumi

Today, I would like to start a monthly tradition of “The Monkey of the Month” – and since I made a Valentine’s monkey for the month of February, I’m continuing with a St Patricks Day Monkey Amigurumi for the month of March!!

st-patricks-day-monkey-amigurumi

st-patricks-day-monkey-amigurumi

Actually, my real goal was to make a monkey of every color of the rainbow, just for the fun of it!  My sister was always nagging at me to make a green monkey too, for what reason I have no idea…so St Patricks Day came just in time for me to make a green monkey.  Of course, every proper leprechaun should wear a nice hat too, and I even decorated the hat with a nice gold buckle!  The buckle is actually just some small pieces of gold trimming I found lying around the house.

It’s so fun when you can make good use of random materials you find in your house that you never thought you’d end up using!  This happened before too when I made the R2D2 amigurumi.  All the silver trimmings and screws were cut from a silver wired ribbon roll we had bought so many years before.

Another example of my thriftiness with this St Patricks Day monkey amigurumi was the heaping pot of gold.  Doesn’t it look so shiny and plentiful…and also a lot like Mardi Gras?  Yes!  I coiled a string of Mardi Gras beads on the top of the pot of gold to make it look extra shiny!  I was pleased with it, but later became a little sad when all people would remark about my St Patricks Day monkey amigurumi was that darned pot of gold!!  “Oh, nice monkey – whoa, is that a pot of gold?!” was my most common critique.  All that hard work to make a nice St Patricks Day monkey amigurumi complete with a nice leprechaun hat and cute 4-leaf clover felt plushy…and all people see is the GOLD!

st-patricks-day-monkey-amigurumi

And of course, when I showed it to my dad, who is a die-hard Lakers fan, all he had to say was, “WHAT?!  Why did you make a Celtics monkey?!”  When I tried to explain it was for St Patricks Day and not associated with Boston or the Celtics, he said, “They’re the SAME THING!!” I felt like I had committed treason and was to be banished to another planet when all I did was crochet a harmless St Patricks Day monkey amigurumi…I swear if I left it somewhere with him, it’d probably disappear mysteriously <gulp>.

Hopefully, others will look past it and see that this monkey would just like to celebrate St Patricks Day happily!  This monkey is available for purchase at my Etsy. Thanks for looking! :D
