I spent a long time on this mummy monkey amigurumi. I pretty much had free rein over what to do with this particular monkey amigurumi so I went crazy with it!

The one thing that took up most of my time was the one eyeball. It took me an entire day just to paint it like that. First I had to paint the entire eye red, then yellow, red again, yellow, and then finally the black pupil. That’s not the end of it though! I still had to wait for all the layers of paint to dry and then I could finally go over all of it with clear nail polish to give it that shiny, glossy finish.

Wrapping this monkey also took a long time. I was cleaning out my sink cabinet one day and found this plain white t-shirt and thought, “hey, I could use this!” So I cut up the entire thing into one very long strip and wrapped it all around the monkey. I got really lazy so instead of cutting the strip into shorter ones, I just used the same long strip to wrap the entire monkey. I only glued a few spots and somehow they stayed! Yay.

Our mummy monkey amigurumi has friends too!

At first, this mummy monkey amigurumi was all white and had no red bloody spots on it. It just didn’t look scary enough somehow so I couldn’t help myself any longer and just splotched it all over with red paint. But even then, I still don’t think it’s scary enough… But I’m still satisfied with the end product!

Since it’s Halloween today, I thought it’d be very appropriate for me to post one of our older creations…the mangy cat! First, I drew up this…
janama crocheted the parts and I sewed them into this!
Don’t you think the hanging eyeball is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen in the world?! If you hold it and shake it around a certain way, the eyeball spins around its epicenter like a helicopter blade! Isn’t that cute?! ;D
I saw roadkill on my way home one time, so that’s what inspired me to make this. Happy Halloween!!

So, when I say friend of R2D2, who comes to mind? C3PO? Luke Skywalker? …Yoda?? No – wrong, wrong, wrong! The obvious answer should be:
R5D4, of course!!
This brilliant idea wasn’t mine actually…it was a custom order! I would never have thought of making R5D4, but he definitely makes the cutest counterpart for R2D2!
Making him was pretty difficult. I had to start over so many times to get the head shape right. I even made an extra body using an off-white colored yarn, because for some funny reason, I thought R5D4 was an off-white color…but actually he’s white. It only looked off-white because of the reflection of the sand on his body. Ha ha ha…I should have looked at him more carefully before I started darnit….
AND…R5D4 is so much fancier than R2D2!! Look at all his fancy embellishments! Those decked out disco-light neck squares, 3 eyeballs instead of 2 (and a glassy crystal eyeball too!), fancy rectangles on his body, and 4 different colors instead of 2 ooooh so special! When I finished and compared him to R2D2, I almost felt sorry for R2D2 because he looked so empty and, well, naked all of a sudden! Maybe we got a little carried away with our decorations on R5D4. Oh well, it’s ok R2D2, you’re still our favorite!
Unfortunately, I didn’t write anything down so there’s no pattern, in case anyone’s wondering. He was too hard to construct, and making a pattern with nice pictures and step-by-step instructions just seems too daunting for me! Perhaps in the future when I have more time…
That’s all for now! Went through quite a dry spell of not posting for a while, but I’ll be making more posts soon, so please visit again!
