Today we’re celebrating Valentine’s Day with our nice, shiny, and bright Valentine’s Day Rabbit Amigurumi!

valentines-day-rabbit-amigurumi-56
We went to town with this one–white and pink rhinestones and all. The one thing that inspired us to make this Valentine’s Day rabbit amigurumi was the pink leopard print felt. We were at the craft store one day and noticed a couple of new felt sheets next to the usual solid colored ones. Our crocheter just couldn’t resist the temptation of playing around with one of them, so we ended up picking this leopard print one.

valentines-day-rabbit-amigurumi-40
She wanted this Valentine’s Day rabbit amigurumi to be loaded on the sparkle factor, so we glued on the rhinestones everywhere and anywhere we had a chance to. After seeing how our New Year’s monkey amigurumi turned out, we were excited to try the rhinestone treatment on something else. As you can see, we lined the ears and all other felt pieces with the pink and white rhinestones. We even stuck them inside the ears too–do you see them? Even the cheeks have rhinestones on them! Ah…rhinestones are just the BEST when it comes to going overboard on the decorating. Someday, we’re going to glue rhinestones all over our amigurumi! Don’t worry, we’ll keep you posted on that
. It’s going to take a lot of patience, but we’re pretty set on it! Well, until we get our hands on some more of them…we’re kind of low on them heh heh.

valentines-day-rabbit-amigurumi-54
We tried to use the pink leopard print felt more than necessary…but we still have more than three fourths of the sheet left. What will we do with it??

valentines-day-rabbit-amigurumi-51
Instead of just making our rabbit amigurumi all one color, we decided to go with a pink fuzzy tail for this one. It makes it look cuter, right?

I know it’s way late, but Happy Dragon Chinese New Year – and now let’s celebrate with a Chinese Dragon Amigurumi!! I actually made this Chinese dragon amigurumi last year, and if you liked my Facebook page you’ve probably seen it already. Sorry if it’s a repeat for some of you, but I thought it just had to be a part of my blog too!

dragon-amigurumi-6
Making this Chinese dragon amigurumi was like making a mini-Bowser. I never really realized it before, but Chinese dragons have deer antlers – did YOU know that? What do they need antlers for anyway? I just crocheted small tubes and sewed one perpendicularly in the middle part of the other and attached the combined unit to the head.

dragon-amigurumi-1
What I like best about this Chinese dragon amigurumi is the felt work. My sister had to cut out so much felt for the dragon’s mane, eyebrows, and fins.

dragon-amigurumi-3
The redness of the fins and mane make the dragon amigurumi look like it’s on fire!! It looks pretty fierce thanks to my sister who likes to put her own scary spin on my cute amigurumis…making it’s eyebrows slanted so it looks like it’s frowning, and giving it fangs. It’s ok, for this dragon amigurumi, a little bit of scariness is just what it needs so I’ll let it go this time around.

dragon-amigurumi-5
It almost reminds me of a dinosaur at this angle!

chinese-new-year-amigurumi-1
Here it is posing with a Chinese girl amigurumi my mom crocheted. For the whiskers, I just crocheted a chain and attached it to the sides of the snout. Later, my mom sewed a golden thread into it too to give it some extra shine.

dragon-amigurumi-8

dragon-amigurumi-7
I do have a pattern for this Chinese dragon amigurumi too, but just haven’t written it up yet. It will be up soon for sale on my Etsy. Please wait for it!
That’s it for our Chinese dragon amigurumi! Hope everyone who celebrates it had a great Chinese new year, and we wish everyone a prosperous and healthy year!

For those of you who were wondering–no, we did not forget about the month of November and yes, we have a Thanksgiving monkey amigurumi just for it. Hope everyone stuffed themselves silly with lots of yummy foods during the holidays!

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-15
For our Thanksgiving monkey amigurumi, we went with the Native American look. We could have gone with the pilgrim look but ultimately decided that a Native American monkey would allow for more decoration. Since we already had a lot of Native American styled props lying around the house, why not use them here?

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-10
Doesn’t our Thanksgiving monkey amigurumi look so cozy and right at home with all the props in the background? Sometimes those random souvenirs you buy on trips really come in handy!

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-5
By the way, the feathers on its headdress are parakeet feathers! We used to have a couple of parakeets and when it came to cleaning their cage, we’d always have a nice supply of some pretty feathers. We saved up quite a few of them, so that also gave us another reason to make a Native American monkey amigurumi. Yes I know, it should have way more feathers on its headdress, but our parakeets weren’t balding!

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-8
Our Thanksgiving monkey amigurumi with its turkey friend. Come to think of it, we didn’t even eat turkey this Thanksgiving… Instead, we ate…….duck.

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-9
Its face paint is actually red and white nail polish! Could have just used paint, but I didn’t have a paintbrush and plus, I didn’t want to wash it afterwards either. But since nail polish already comes with a brush, it was much more tempting and easy solution to my little dilemma hahaa.

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-11

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-17
Now our monkey looks tall!

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-16
And now it’s short.

thanksgiving-monkey-amigurumi-19
Hope you enjoyed looking at our Thanksgiving monkey amigurumi!

We’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays with our Santa Claus Monkey Amigurumi!!

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-16
This is our most festive looking monkey amigurumi to date! For those of you who are wondering, yes, we are missing one monkey. But don’t worry, our November monkey amigurumi will not be left out. Promise!

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-1
Our Santa Claus monkey amigurumi sits proudly on display in front of our Christmas tree. All the little Christmas decorations we collected over the years really came in handy for this photo shoot. The little house was just the right size for taking pictures with the Santa monkey amigurumi. Time for some side views!

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-12

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-13
Since we couldn’t find a small white pom pom for the tip of the hat, we had to crochet a tiny ball out of another type of fuzzy yarn. Not as round as a pom pom would have been, but it still works right?

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-18
For this monkey, we did some things differently…like the green hands and feet. We wanted our Santa Claus monkey amigurumi to look like it was actually wearing gloves and boots. Then to top it all off, we just lined them with some fuzzy wires.

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-19
What’s also special about this monkey amigurumi is the white beard. Instead of using something like cotton for the beard, we just decided to go with felt. Using something like cotton for the beard probably wouldn’t last as long. After a while, it’d probably start losing hair (or cotton fibers) there! That wouldn’t be good… Cutting the beard was very easy. All I did was cut out a square, folded it in half, and cut only one side of the beard so that it’d come out symmetrical.

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-21
We also made a Christmas tree topper this year too!

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-5

christmas-santa-monkey-amigurumi-10
Like our random Christmas decorations? There’s a ferris wheel, nutcracker, house, and big crystal cubes! Our Santa Claus monkey amigurumi is so festive! It makes all of our previous monkey amigurumis look plain! Don’t worry, there’s still New Years to outdo this Santa Claus monkey amigurumi :]!!

To finish off our crazy Halloween amigurumi spree, we present to you a Vampire Monkey Amigurumi!

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-34
Isn’t he so dashing? Looking so sharp with a tux instead of the usual heart chest piece, sparkly black buttons, and a nice little bow tie too. So fashion forward! He even holds a romantic red rose in his paw, handcrafted by my sister polarbear of course. This little vampire monkey amigurumi is sure to charm his way into all the lady’s hearts! Don’t get too excited though ladies…rumor has it he’s dating the little Witch Monkey Amigurumi. Sigh, she’s a lucky monkey, I know…

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-3

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-5

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-8
This vampire monkey amigurumi was by far the fanciest monkey we’ve made so far. The cape was actually handsewn together by my mom (because we all know how horrible I am at sewing). It was such a nice coincidence that we had the perfect materials lying around too, like velvet and satin, to make the perfect cape. The hat is exactly the same as the St Patrick’s Day monkey amigurumi and Fourth of July monkey amigurumi.

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-26
Another part of this vampire monkey amigurumi that took a lot of work was the backdrop. Polarbear spent days painting and drawing the background. She even cut up some of the same black chiffon material used for the Witch monkey amigurumi’s cape to make into curtains. Our idea was to make the vampire monkey amiguurmi look like he was in a mansion. For me at least, when I think vampire I think mansion…and of course a coffin!

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-31
Polarbear also spent a lot of time handcrafting all the roses on the coffin and on the floor. She even used glitter glue to outline some nice gold lines on the coffin. Very decadent-looking, just how I had envisioned it ahh. The coffin was actually made out of styrofoam from an old egg carton. It was painted black and then nicely decorated. And for you nitpickers out there, yes we are aware the coffin is a little bit small. He sleeps sideways…because he likes to!

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-23
I just had to include this picture because he looks like he’s using his hand to flaunt his luxurious cape haha!

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-16
Of course, no vampire is complete without some bloody fangs! The fangs were cut out from white felt, then painted very meticulously with red nail polish.

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-17
Teethy~!

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-25
That wraps up our monkeys of the month for October! I hope you’ve all enjoyed our Halloween monkey amigurumis as much as we’ve enjoyed creating them. We went a little crazy because it’s polarbear’s favorite time of the year. She’s been dying to get dark and spooky with our cute amigurumis since forever! I just enjoyed living vicariously through the monkey amigurumis because I want to dress up for Halloween but can’t…sniff sniff.

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-28

vampire-monkey-amigurumi-33
Nevertheless, our Vampire Monkey Amigurumi wishes everyone a Happy Halloween!!

Anyone up for another Halloween monkey amigurumi? We are!!!

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-13-1
I’ve been waiting many months just to post this one particular Halloween monkey amigurumi. This is actually the original Halloween monkey that we made. But Halloween’s the funnest time of the year, so why not just go all out and make a whole boatload of them?

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-2-1
This one took quite a while to make. It was me who kept pestering our crocheter to make this monkey. I was looking forward to making this the most! So I couldn’t help myself and changed a few things about it. I painted one eye all white and the other with a single red pupil to give it a more creepy (but cute!) look. Changed the mouth, added a bunch of stitch work, and cut out the shape and face of a jack-o-lantern for the chest piece.

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-20
Cutting out those tiny triangles and teeth on that pumpkin shaped chest piece was a lot of work but it still came out okay. It was like carving a real pumpkin but out of felt!

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-3-1
I really wanted this Halloween monkey amigurumi to have two distinct personalities. The left side (picture above) is the cute and happy side and the right side (below) is the scarier/crazier side. So if you look at these two pictures separately, they’ll look like two different monkeys! All in one!

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-4-1

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-7-1
And here are our side views~

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-8-1

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-9-1
It looks like our Halloween monkey amigurumi is growing out of the…..Heart of Darkness!! Hahaha kidding~ Yes, I read the book…but don’t remember what happened. Hehe.

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-10-1

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-12-1

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-14-1
Its castle. Very small castle–and yes, it can support the weight of an entire monkey! Such a strong little fortress its got there.

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-16-1
And now with a friend! Pumpkin minion?

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-21-1

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-1-1
I was so happy about making this Halloween monkey amigurumi that I even took the time to paint a background for it. Don’t know if you can see it, but there’s actually purple bats flying in the background. I also painted the little fortress/castle-like thing too. That was actually a white styrofoam box that housed six eggs in its nice foamy grasp. Putting this set together took a whole afternoon! But I’m pleased with the end result. Still more monkeys to come!

halloween-monkey-amigurumi-22-1
Sweet dreams everyone! Hope you all enjoyed our Halloween monkey amigurumi!!

It’s way past the middle of the month, but we haven’t forgotten about our farmer monkey amigurumi for September! Here it is! Finally!

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-7
What will he be harvesting today?

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-3
In making this monkey, I wanted the body to have a hay-like color to it. Actually, the name of the color for the yarn was “hay”! At first, I didn’t know what kind of monkey to make for the month of September. But then I saw this yarn and thought why not make a farmer monkey amigurumi? When I think of September, I think of things like fall, farmlands, and harvesting crops–especially pumpkins for some reason.

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-6
Looks like our farmer monkey is ready to start another busy and laborious day out in the fields! All the extra props were things that I found lying around the house. They really came in handy this time!

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-14

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-10

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-12
We didn’t want the hat to be too fancy…it just wouldn’t have that organic feel to it. Sometimes if you overdecorate, it just ends up looking unfocused and sort of like a mishmash of different ideas going on in the same amigurumi. So the simple approach was what we were going for. Besides, have you ever seen a farmer working out in the fields with a totally decked out straw hat?

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-13
Harvesting some vegetation? Looks like he even sprinkled some fertilizer.

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-16

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-17

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-22
We even decorated his overalls with some patches of cloth. Did you notice them? One was on the front and two others were on each side.

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-24
Looks like he’s harvesting some…crab grass! We just love crab grass, don’t we?

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-26

farmer-monkey-amigurumi-21
Well, that’s it for a busy day in the life of our farmer monkey amigurumi!!

Since the first time I posted about my monkey amigurumis, I have received lots of positive feedback and interest in getting a pattern for them. Not knowing so many people would take interest in my monkeys, I actually submitted my pattern for them in Interweave’s 2012 Crochet Me Amigurumi Calendar Contest, and surprisingly got chosen to be a part of the calendar! I received my complimentary copy of the calendar in the mail about a month ago, and have been waiting since then for them to publish the ebook which contains all the patterns for the amigurumis in the calendar. They finally have, so I’m posting about it now to spread the good news!
Here are some pictures of the calendar I took myself:

monkey-amigurumi-pattern-3

monkey-amigurumi-pattern-1
I also submitted a pattern for a polar bear my sister fondly nicknamed Polar Lucibear, and it got chosen for the month of December too! Never had the chance to take nice pictures of it before I had to send it in for the contest, but oh well, the professionals did a good job anyway!

monkey-amigurumi-pattern-4
Visit here to take a look at the ebook.
Visit here to take a look at the calendar.
According to the site description, the patterns for the monkeys will be released for free download at CrochetMe.com during the first week of the month for which they appear in the calendar (my monkeys were chosen for the month of June). If you don’t want to wait, you can always download the ebook now with all the patterns in the calendar at the link above.
Can’t wait to order some more calendars myself! Definitely excited to give them away as presents to friends and family!
Thanks to everyone who gave me such nice feedback and for showing interest in my monkeys, it really means a lot to me.

It’s that time of the year again–let’s celebrate it with a Rock Lee amigurumi!!!

rock-lee-amigurumi-11
Spent all of yesterday celebrating our brother’s birthday at the beach! Was thinking about posting this sooner…but then he’d see it and our little birthday amigurumi surprise would be ruined! Just like how he spoiled his own birthday surprise a few years ago when he spotted our R2D2 amigurumi with his crazy hawk eye for anything Star Wars…but this time we were successful!!
:d

rock-lee-amigurumi-1
Rock Lee is from Naruto, a ninja anime that’s been going on for many many years now. He’s supposed to bear a resemblance to Bruce Lee in both looks and fighting style. Making this Rock Lee amigurumi was very hard! Sure, he looks pretty plain and easy to make, but those bulging eyes, thick brows, eyelashes, and hair were a big pain to cut and make! Especially since it comes straight out of an anime where everything is drawn so that the characters look the same everyday.

rock-lee-amigurumi-4

rock-lee-amigurumi-2
Cutting his hair was a lot of work too. I used up a lot of black felt and trimmed away quite a bit as well. At first, his bangs were too long and were covering up too much of his thick, luscious eyebrows so I had to trim them a bit so that he’d look less girly and more like the charmingly ugly Rock Lee that he’s supposed to be. At one point, I felt like his personal hairdresser! And then at another point, as I was wrapping his arm bandages, I felt like a nurse! This was one high maintenance Rock Lee amigurumi!!

rock-lee-amigurumi-5
I even tied it in the signature Naruto style!

rock-lee-amigurumi-7
The lines on his leg warmers were drawn on with a sharpie…so yeah, that took a very very long time to do. Same goes for the little leaf. I had to draw that a couple of times before I finally got one that I was satisfied with.

rock-lee-amigurumi-10
Oh and by the way, today’s background is our brother’s painting that he did a long time ago at school. We figured that the usual girly polka dot backgrounds would not mix well with this character, so we thought why not use something masculine looking that the birthday boy drew himself?! Doesn’t it look nice?
Very nice and fitting for a Rock Lee amigurumi right?

Let’s get into the tropical mood with a Hawaiian monkey amigurumi!

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-13
Are we in a tropical mood yet? Let’s just drop everything and go to Hawaii!!! A little late with the monthly posting but here we go!

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-1
Exactly one year ago, we took a family trip to Hawaii for a week, so to remember the fun times I decided to make a Hawaiian monkey amigurumi. When I got to thinking of what to do for the month of August, nothing came to mind but summery things and warm beachy places….like Hawaii!

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-3
And our 360 degree view looks like this:

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-4

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-6
Weee!

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-5
Ah, now I’m dizzy.

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-7
Like the coconut + plumeria + leafy headdress? The coconut was crocheted with a thinner yarn and took a very long time to make. Lots of work just for one tiny little coconut halve. Even though it’s small, it doesn’t mean that it’ll be less work. The plumerias next to the coconut are actually earrings. The last time we went to Hawaii, we bought them from ABCmart (very cheap and nice by the way).

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-10
The plumerias on the grass skirt also came from that store and are actually one bracelet. I just crocheted the grass skirt and slid the bracelet on afterwards. Looks nice and festively Hawaiian right? Mm…a luau sounds really good right now.

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-15
And of course my Hawaiian monkey amigurumi needs some friends! Say hello to coconut amigurumi! It’s so smiley and happy in the background. Now I could really use a pina colada.

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-11
Ah yes and before I forget, I also crocheted a small coconut palm to go with the Hawaiian monkey. Such a happy little tropical family~

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-16
For this particular monkey, I tried to make it look tanned. Did you catch on to that? Well anyway, I used a darker felt for the face, chest, and ears, instead of the usual light colored one. I figured that if it’s going to be a Hawaiian monkey, why not make it look like it came straight from Hawaii? Exposed to all the sunlight and warm weather! It’d be weird if it were a pale monkey right? It just wouldn’t be genuinely Hawaiian.

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-19

hawaiian-monkey-amigurumi-20
Happy summer! Hope you all enjoyed my take on a Hawaiian monkey amigurumi!
